RK Misra, fondly known as ‘RK’, is an undergraduate from IIT Kanpur with Master’s Degree from Tokyo University. He is an alumnus of Harvard Kennedy School of Government & Global Leadership Fellow of Aspen Institute, USA.
He is a non-resident scholar at Carnegie India, A Global Think Tank. At Carnegie, RK researches on issues of Technology & Public Policy. He is also convenor of annual Carnegie Global Tech Summit.
RK is also the Cofounder of YULU Bikes, a Public Bike Sharing System (PBS) which is working to solve personal mobility challenges of Urban India.
He is the Founder Director of ‘Centre for Smart Cities’ (www.c-smart.in), a ‘Think & Do’ organization, a repository of global best practices for planning, implementation & management of Smart Cities in collaboration with leading global organizations.
After graduating from IIT, Kanpur in 1989, he was one of the 25 students, chosen from 18 countries, to pursue Master’s program from the prestigious Tokyo University under a special internationalization initiative of Japanese Ministry of Education.
Post his graduation, RK spent early years of his professional career in Japan.
RK returned to India in 1995 and founded Tenet Technologies, Tenet Telecom & Tenet Holdings with global business presence. He also founded India’s first Travel Portal, Traveljini.com. He grew these businesses with successful mergers & buyouts.
In 2005, on turning 40, he decided to leave the corporate world to engage with the issues of Public Policy & Governance.
In 2006, he founded SAHYOG – Indian Council for Public-Private Partnership which works on “Sustainable Development” in Urban Centers and “Livelihood Opportunities” in Rural India
In 2008, RK was adjudged, the WINNER of the LEAD INDIA, an initiative by the Times of India to identify new generation political leaders.
RK is also the Chief Patron of Bangalore International Midnight Marathon (www.midnightmarathon.in).
