Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)

Hello Delegates!

My name is Thomson Palamattam, I am currently pursuing my Btech specialising in Computer Science in Mumbai. Though I am still figuring out what exactly I want to study or work in, I am incredibly interested in the topics of technology, global economy, politics, and ‘anything fast enough to do something exciting in’.

I am very enthusiastic about the conference and cannot wait to engage with and get to know my delegates. My MUNing experience has been a very fruitful one, the diverse cultural exchange and thought provoking ideas are what I look most forward too.

Welcome to the VHMUN 6.

Thomson Palamattam

Chairperson
ECOSOC

Greetings Delegates!

I am Urja Jain, currently enrolled in the Second Year Bachelor of Arts programme at Sophia College for Women. I am an alumna of Nath Valley School, Aurangabad. I am always ready to explore new opportunities, so I landed up in the urban jungle that is Mumbai. Having attended the Harvard Model United Nations India 2013 as my first MUN, exposure to such kind of debate and culture sparked off an interest in international relations and economic policies. After that whirlwind experience I wanted to attend more MUNs and college gave me the opportunity to do so. I delegated at MUNSOPHICAL 2014 and then there was no looking back. The year 2015 was very ‘MUNful’ for me as I was a delegate at most of the college MUNs in and around Mumbai. I am a social animal who loves meeting and interacting with people, so feel free to stop me whenever I am around! I also consider myself to be a big TV serial freak watching them all, right from ‘House of Cards’ to ‘Suits’ to ‘Game of Thrones’.

Getting down to business, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) governs approximately 70% of the United Nations’ human and financial resources, promoting it to a highly influential position in the world today. In committee, delegates will be challenged by diverse perspectives and offered the unique opportunity to engage in intense debates and take to the floor multiple times. So, speak up delegates!

The agendas seem generic in nature. However, they require monumental efforts to resolve them. They are also set in accordance to the current scenario where Millennium Development Goals are transformable into Sustainable Development Goals focusing on inclusive growth.

For experienced MUNers, my Chairperson and I guarantee a great committee with a refined quality of debate. We welcome the first timers and assure you that ECOSOC will give you a brilliant and interesting start to your careers.

All the best.

Urja Jain
