What is VIBGYORMUN?

VIBGYOR Group of Schools has launched numerous initiatives to empower the students of today. One of our highly acclaimed programmes is VIBGYOR Model United Nations (VIBGYORMUN). An initiative of our flagship school VIBGYOR High, Goregaon West, Mumbai, VIBGYORMUN was incepted in the year 2011. The brainchild of Mr Shim Mathew, Director – Academic Operations of the VIBGYOR Group of Schools, it has the unstinted support of Mr Rustom Kerawalla, our esteemed Founder Chairman and Ms Kavita Sahay Kerawalla, – Vice Chairperson. Over the years, it has been nurtured dedicatedly by Ms Tripti Parekh, the MUN Chair and Principal of VIBGYOR Roots and Rise, Malad West.

VIBGYORMUN is a simulation of the United Nations in which students participate as delegates of various UN Committees. Participants research and formulate political positions or resolutions based on the actual policies of the countries they represent. At the end of the conference, outstanding delegates in each committee are recognised and awarded.

Preparing for such a conference involves substantial researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, as well as critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.

The purpose of the Model UN is to provide an interactive educational experience. The process provides participants with an understanding of how the process of international debate and negotiation function. The simulations of the diplomatic processes are especially important in the post Cold War period when the world is quickly becoming more interdependent. In this interdependent world, Model UN makes for informed global citizens who not only understand the decisions their nation makes but also how those changes affect politics nationally, regionally, and globally.

Such activity is encouraged with the goals of furthering understanding about the United Nations, educating participants about world issues and promoting peace and the work of the United Nations through cooperation and diplomacy.

We ardently believe that the future lies in the hands of young learners and they should be encouraged to find viable sustainable solutions for challenges faced by the world community. Over the years, the VIBGYORMUN has become a distinctive forum for the students to voice their opinions. Moreover, it has served as a platform for them to meet, debate, deliberate, consult and discuss issues about international relations in a diplomatic way.

All the VIBGYORMUN Conferences held up till now have been highly successful and have received much praise from delegates, faculty advisors, our national and international guests and dignitaries. It has made its mark and is one of the high profile MUNs in Mumbai and even the rest of India.
